Today we traveled to Raystown Lake under beautiful sunny skies for a remote stage on mountain bike specific trails. This turned out to be the single most grin-worthy ride I think I have ever done. While the roller coaster ride of short punchy climbs proved my undoing in the GC race, the experience was truly EPIC on the fun meter!
With the said meter pegged from mile one, the endless whoops and swooping turns simply begged for no mercy. The purveyors of shred at the front of the race obliged and the pace was furious throughout. I was on the rev-limited immediately and was gapped after each section of full-gas uphill micro intervals. Twice I was able ride back on during the ensuing flatter or downhill portions of the track.
Unfortunately Christian Tanguy punched my ticket after the last checkpoint and Alex Grant piled on to finish things off with the stage win. Brandon Draugelis, Drew Edsall and Jeremiah Bishop rounded out the top five. I lost several minutes dropping one place on the overall to third behind Bishop and Tanguy.
On the women's side, Rebecca Rusch returned to her winning ways with a commanding stage win. Selene Yeager and Karen Potter rounded out the podium while nothing changed much on GC for the ladies.
The moral of this chapter is simple: if you travel to Pennsylvania ride Raystown Lake or better yet, do better and ride TSE!
