Racers from across the United States and Canada toed the line as individuals Sunday May 30, 2010, and in some cases as duo groups, today for the inaugural Transylvania Epic, a race that showcases the best single-track that Pennsylvania and the east coast has to offer.  Stage Number one of the Transylvania Epic started today with a prologue time trial. Racers showcased their strengths on the 10 mile course featuring long climbs, rock gardens, and a well flowing mix of single track, double track, and forest roads in prime conditions.  Weather was perfect and the clouds showed favor on the race with ideal temperatures to kick off the event.

In the Womenís Open, Pennsylvaniaís own Selene Yeager took the womenís win convincingly for Team CF, setting a blistering time to beat early on with Karen Potter of iRide Adventures/MTBRaceNews.com coming in second, and Specializedís Rebecca Rusch from Idaho taking third.  In the Menís Open, Jeremiah Bishop showed his prowess and familiarity with the east coast riding style in a convincing win, demonstrating his comfort level with high octane endurance racing by taking the win for the Cannondale Factory Team. He was followed closely by Coloradoís Drew Edsall (Yeti) in second, and Christian Tanguy (Team CF) of Michigan rounding out the podium.  Leading the other categories are Kim Jones and Mark Risdale of Ontario (Misfits Cycles) in Duo, Greg Martin (Club Ride Apparel) coming in from Ketchum, Idaho to lead the single speed category, and Alec  Petro (Team Psycho) leading the Masters field. Also taking part in mountain bike tandem is Rob and Sarah Lichtenwalner of PAValleys.comTeam.

Stage number two kicks off tomorrow morning with a point to point course containing potentially the toughest stage of the Transylvania Epic with 40 miles and the incomparable Coopers Gap Region of the Alleghenies.  With an entire week of racing ahead, racers are energetic and enthusiastic about what lies before them.
