Charity More Than Sport (MTS) Welcomes Professional Mountain Bike Racer Payson McElveen

Professional Mountain Bike Racer Payson McElveen has partnered with Charity MORE Than Sport and will race upcoming 7-day Trans-Sylvania Epic and upcoming 2014 events supporting World Bicycle Relief.

"Iím thrilled that Payson is teaming up with More Than Sport to raise funds and awareness for World Bicycle Relief. Payson has embraced the spirit of MTS, to do more as an athlete, and give back, and weíre excited to see him mobilize students, entrepreneurs and healthcare workers, through the Power of Bicycles as a result.Ē said Katie Bolling, USA Development Director for WBR.

Founded by Professional Triathlete Chris Lieto, MORE than Sport is a global network of Professional Athletes, Corporations, Charities and Everyday Heroes who are passionate about inspiring others and transforming communities. WBR is one of several select charities supported by MORE Than Sport.

"The World Bicycle Relief mission is empowering people by giving them transportation, and the resources to change lives. I am so happy to see someone at 21-years old, who makes a living racing a bicycle, already on a leadership path to helping others. Athletes like Payson are why I started MORE Than Sport,Ē commented Chris Lieto, MTS Founder.

Starting his racing career in 2007 in Texas, McElveen now splits time between Austin, where he graduated from High School, and Durango, Colorado. "To be honest, Iím not sure what Ďhomeí is now, and Iím okay with that. The Texas Hill Country, Colorado Rockies, a five star hotel in China, or tent in the desert. I guess home is wherever my bike takes me,Ē said McElveen.

A rising talent on the Pro MTB scene McElveen is in first full professional season while taking a hiatus from Fort Lewis College, where he also was a member of their prestigious collegiate MTB Team.  He put together his own effort for 2014 sponsored by Richardís Rainwater.

An early season wrist fracture sidelined him, but before the injury McElveen opened his season with an impressive 6th place finish at PRO XCT Opener Mellow Johnnyís Classic and is working towards selection to represent the U.S. in the 2014 MTB World Championships in Norway. "Iím excited to use events like Trans-Sylvania Epic to give back to World Bicycle Relief. What Chris Lieto has created through More Than Sport is the perfect way for me to share my efforts. The strong social media aspect allows me to keep those watching in touch with my efforts and help spread the word all season longĒ Commented McElveen.
