Chris Holley and Erica Tingey Take the Top Spots at Snowbird

A day after July 4th Utahís top cross country racers supplied the fireworks at Snowbird Resort. A hot day with clear skies provided the backdrop for some sparkling action.

Chris Holley (Kuhl) turned a terrible start into a race win and Erica Tingey (Jamis) used Snowbird to put a tough couple of weeks behind her.

After a quick start sprint up a fire road the race quickly turned off onto singletrack. Holley, who was near the front at the time, managed to get hung out on the side of the trail and quickly drifted back to nineteenth out of twenty starters.

Once back on track, Holley didnít waste time moving up through the pack getting into the top-5 by the third of four laps.

The Kuhl rider passed Matthew Turner (Summit Devo) first before getting Bryson Perry (DNA Cycling) and finally Geoffrey Montague (Blendtec). After getting around Montague, Holley attacked the final rock-strewn descent to the finish stretching his lead out to just under a minute. Montague came home in second followed by Matthew Turner who took over third after Perry dropped out of the lead group.

Erica Tingey took a different tact in her race win. Tingey sprinted out to an early lead and never looked back putting her competition and recent struggles on the ProXCT circuit behind her.

Tingey used her powerful climbing style to stretch her lead early on while staying comfortable on the techy descents. After three laps she finished with a well-deserved win.

Sarah Kaufmann (NoTubes Elite) took second holding a 30 second gap on Jen Hanks (Epic Brewing/MTBRaceNews.com) throughout the 15-mile race.

Overall, the racecourse garnered rave reviews from all competitors with those lucky enough to get on the podium taking home cash and prizes for their efforts.
