Draper Fall Classic presented by Ford - Draper, Utah

Saturday's mild temperatures and turning leaves provided the perfect setting for one of the hottest mountain bike races of the season. The final race before Utah's cyclocross season began saw strong fields and close racing for the men's and women's competitions.

The Fall Classic included 25 and 50-mile race options with the 50 miler being the marquee event of the day.

The men's race started with Nate Miller (Honey Stinger) charging off the front of the race. At the midway point of the first lap, Miller had a lead of over a minute over the chasers.

Lap two though saw Miller begin to fade being overtaken by Sam Sweetser (Cole Sport) and Chris Holley (4 Life). A late race crash would eliminate Miller from the race.

36 miles in, Sweetser and Holley were glued together with Geoffrey Montague and Ben Aufderheide (The Hub) just behind.

Before the finish, Holley had a serious bonk and took a wrong turn, off the side of a bridge. Miller had also crashed out and Ben Aufderheide was on the move.

By the finish, Sweetser was alone at the front. Ben Aufderheide moved all the way up to second. Montague held on for third ahead of Casey Zaugg (Coconutz Fuel) and Chris Holley who hauled himself across the line in fifth.

The women's race was equally exciting with Stan's NoTubes Elite rider Kathy Sherwin hammering off the front early on. She was shadowed by Jen Hanks (Epic Brewing/MTBRaceNews.com) with Hanks taking over the lead halfway through the first of two 25-mile laps.

Hanks held onto the lead before being caught and passed by Meghan Sheridan on the long Clark's Trail climb. Hanks took over the lead again on the subsequent descent but Sheridan tracked her down on the next climb and took the lead for good.

Meghan Sheridan would take her first win on the Utah State Championship Series with Hanks coming in second.

KC Holley (4 Life) took over third place before the finish with Kathy Sherwin dropping down to fourth.

Erin Swenson (3B Yoga) came home in fifth.

Race Notes:

Riders enjoyed another weekend of big payouts from the Utah State Championship Series. Meghan Sheridan took home $693 for the win with payout going 5-deep while Sam Sweetser took home over $700 and the top-6 taking home cash
